  well, i have been lurking on here for about 6 months.

  i was raised around the witnesses all my life.

  'What if Armageddon comes' - a sort of vague yet terrifying thought thought that has a firm hold on many JW's. But think about what Armageddon would mean in real-world terms. Are fiery meteors going to come hurling down from the sky and pick off all the non-JW's who, by JW reasoning, willfully rejected The Truth and are therefore deserving of a violent death? Will cracks open up in the Earth, all over the world, from Alaska to Zimbabwe, into which all the people (and all sorts of other creatures) will fall in and somehow die, either of falling too far or hitting lava at some point or something? lol

  Think of all the non-JW people that you have known in your life. Are they willfully evil people who really know all about Jehovah and the Truth and who just felt like, pshaw, i know those ol' JW's may be right but I want to PARTY and be a BAD WICKED PERSON - ? I mean, seriously. Armageddon is just a nondescript monster-under-the-bed. It isn't real.

  with the new " overlap generation " theory that the wt society is pushing onto rank and file jehovah's witnesses since last year this article i found really heavy hitting in the jw version of the wt.

  the wt society is leaking oil in that confidence is low among jw's in not really buying into the " generation overlap " theory as many younger jw's are exiting the organization.

  so what better way to try reeling members back in by giving them an article entitled " do not deceive yourself with false reasoning " !

  even now, i can vividly recall buying my very first 45 rpm single in 1967.. i was only just 15 years old.

  i worked as a 'paper boy', delivering newspapers to people living nearby.

  Celebration by Kool and the Gang. I drove my poor family nuts by playing it over and over.

  When I was a really little kid I inherited a bunch of 45's somehow, among them Frankenstein by Edgar Winter. My sister and I would put it on, and then turn the lights on and off really fast for a strobe effect to accompany the music, LOL.

  So has the wt given up on prophecy altogether or what?

  for decades they've produced massive tomes on their own peculiar brand of wt-centric prophecy, but it seems like the production of prophecy-related material as of late has slowed to a trickle, their last prophecy-related book that i can recall was the minor-prophets book released a few years back.

  however that book if i recall was very vague in its exposition, focusing on daily life application rather than eschatology.

  and yet the armageddon-end-times-obedience-"generation" drumbeat grows faster and louder with less and less exposition as to how or when exactly any of this is supposed to play out.

  i woke up today a right grumpy basket case.... not a good day for the jehovah's witness to call on me to do there usual shepherding call, bringing me the usual mags of shite!

  i stood there on the doorstep in my pj's, care free and all fired up.

  i was asked how i was doing & then informed that they had my latest mags.

  a full billboard ad in my area along a busy heavily travelled highway would cost about $500.

  would probably get lots of attention and maybe even a news article, who knows.

  $500 is cheap and easily affordable.

  Political neutrality was one of the most deeply appealing aspects of JWism when I was first learning about them.

  It all came a-tumbling down when they reversed themselves on the Alternative Service issue, and in one article that attempted to address the fallout from it basically told old-timers who experienced the horrors of imprisonment back in the day due to their refusal to participate in either military or alternative service, 'Because of YOUR undestanding of the scriptures, you may have experienced imprisonment over the neutrality issue. Now that YOU understand things differently, you may believe that your suffering was pointless. Well, suck it up.'

  Never even the slightest allusion to 'We, the chosen representatives of Gawd Almighty, at one time made it 100% clear in the pages of this very magazine that no True Kreeschan can take part in any form of alternative service and those who do so will be kicked out of the Organization of True Kreeschans and left for dead in a New York minute'.

  One of the the defining, nausea-inducing moments when I realized how utterly full of shit the WTS was.
